Summary of key enhancements and features coming in the Business Central 2021 Wave 2 Release

Bank and payment reconciliations features are now more efficient.

The Payment Reconciliation Journal has been improved with the capabilities:

  • Separate number series
  • Posted preview
  • Reverse GL register

The Bank Reconciliation page has been enhanced with the following:

  • Filtered bank ledger entries
  • A cleaner test report layout
  • Auto and many to one matching
  • Transfer differences

Account schedules – budget name filter for columns: Often times companies report against more than one budget in a fiscal period. Now Business Central allows users to set a filter on a budget name and create account schedules that say on actual versus budgets for multiple budgets. This is helpful if you need to report against a budget and a forecast budget.

Improved user experience to keep posting setup and dimension values from going wrong: When users run into a posting error when previewing a posting entry, the error messages are often difficult to interpret and source the mistake. The error messages page will now provide more details about the error, such as source and source field name, which directs the user to the posting setup page where the error occurred and a link to a page to resolve the issue. Users require the appropriate permissions to fix the error.

Document attachment from a mobile device: Microsoft has updated the document attachment functionality to work with mobile devices running Business Central. This is particularly useful for users that view attachments before submitting approval from a mobile device.

Add additional columns through personalization in various pages to gain more insight: The unique and powerful personalization feature in Business Central allows users to add, remove, and adjust the layout of columns on many pages throughout the application. How did Microsoft improve this feature? By adding more columns and fields to be available.

Enhancements to Working with Excel: The popular Edit in Excel feature, now in a new home, allows you to bulk-edit data on the recurring general journal and intercompany general journal pages. Users can directly export report data to Excel from the report request page, and the name of the exported file has been simplified to match the name of the page.

Use new templates with the same flexibility as configuration templates: To ensure that customer, vendor, item, or employee data is created quickly and accurately, you can use templates to standardize settings when new records are created.

Default line type in the sales and purchase documents: Before the wave 2 release, users could not choose the default type on a purchase or sales document line. The line would automatically default to “Item.” Now users will be able to choose which default line type will be suggested when creating new documents. This is accomplished through a simple setup on either the sales and receivables or the purchase and payables setup page.

Add non-inventory items on requisition and planning worksheets: Both physical and non-inventory items can now be entered into requisitions or planning worksheets enabling businesses to enter information about the things they want to order and then create orders for the items all in one go.

Item variant code on demand forecasts: Item variants are significant, especially if you have many items that are almost identical and vary, for example, only in color. In the Wave 2 release, you can register anticipated demand concerning locations and dates and item variants as well.

Locations for non-inventory items: You can now track statistics for non-inventory items by area in the same way as inventory items.

Rounding for the base unit of measure and support for an alternative branch of measurement: You can specify a rounding precision for base units of measure to guide users on what to enter and reduce rounding issues when using alternate units of measure. Alternative units of measurements for inventory pick and put-away are now supported for items with serial number tracking.

Microsoft Teams Enhancements for web client users: Microsoft further enhances the integration of its suite of products by deploying a Business Central App for Teams. Users will be able to stay connected and share business data much more quickly. A new “Share to Teams” option will allow users to send a message to others within their Teams contacts and include a link to a Business Central record, for example, an item. Users will also be able to share a link to a filtered list view. This helps users stay connected and respond with business data much more quickly and easily.

More control over currency exchange rate adjustments: Microsoft has more control over exchange rate adjustments within the system. Now users can segregate by customers, vendors, or bank accounts, and further by specific customers, vendors, or bank accounts.
